Heavy Duty Connectors are rectangular industrial connectors built to carry power, signal, and data in places where a standard board connector would not last long. You see them on factory automation lines, rail vehicles, robotics cells, wind turbines, packaging machines, and outdoor control cabinets. The typical construction is a metal or tough thermoplastic hood and housing, a removable insert with crimp or screw contacts, and a locking lever or screw system that keeps the mated pair sealed against vibration, dust, and water. Most families follow common footprints such as the Han series sizes, so inserts, hoods, and bases from different manufacturers often mate mechanically, although buyers still need to confirm coding, contact arrangement, and IP rating before mixing brands. Sub-types usually break down by insert configuration: power inserts for high current, signal inserts with dense low-voltage pins, pneumatic or hybrid modules, and versions rated for Ethernet or coax inside the same housing. Housing styles split into bulkhead, surface-mount, and cable-to-cable, with top or side cable entry. Engineers usually check current rating per contact, voltage category, wire gauge range, mating cycles, and ingress protection, since a connector that looks right on paper can still fail early if the seal or plating is wrong for the environment. On the purchasing side, the trade-offs are familiar. Original Harting, Weidmüller, or TE parts cost more but arrive with traceability and consistent crimp quality; cheaper equivalents can work fine but need closer inspection, because contact plating thickness and housing material are where counterfeits cut corners. Lead time is another real issue: a common 16-pin insert may ship same week, while an odd coding or high-voltage variant can sit at eight to twelve weeks from the factory. Many buyers also prefer cut-reel or individual packaging rather than bulk bags, partly for kitting and partly to reduce handling damage.
