Data acquisition covers the parts that move signals between the analog world and a processor. On this page you will mostly find analog-to-digital converters, digital-to-analog converters, analog front ends, multiplexers, sample-and-hold amplifiers, and the occasional complete data acquisition module. These show up everywhere: PLC input cards, battery test equipment, medical monitors, vibration sensors, weigh scales, and lab instruments all lean on some flavor of ADC or DAC, and the part that works fine in a consumer gadget often will not survive an industrial temperature spec. When engineers and buyers come to us for these parts, they usually start with resolution and sample rate, but the conversation quickly moves to interface type, reference requirements, and package. A 16-bit ADC in a tiny QFN is a different sourcing problem than the same die in a TSSOP, and plenty of designs still run on older through-hole parts that the franchised channel stopped stocking years ago. That is where lead time becomes the real trade-off. A common scenario: the franchised distributor quotes 26 weeks on an ADI or TI converter, while the open market has reels sitting in a warehouse somewhere. The catch is you need to trust the source, because data acquisition ICs are among the most counterfeited parts we see, especially high-resolution ADCs and anything from Analog Devices with a long backorder history. Date codes, original packaging, and traceable lot information matter more here than shaving a few cents off the unit price. Buyers also ask about cut tape versus full reels, since many of these parts go into low-volume, high-mix production. Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know a data acquisition IC from the open market is not counterfeit?
High-resolution ADCs and DACs are frequent counterfeit targets, so ask for photos of the actual reels, date codes, and lot traceability before you commit. Reputable independent distributors run X-ray and decapsulation checks on request. If a price looks far below the franchised quote, treat that as a warning sign, not a bargain.
The franchised channel quotes 20 plus weeks on my ADC. Can you get it faster?
Often yes. Long factory lead times on parts from ADI, TI, or Microchip usually mean stock exists somewhere in the independent channel, either as excess from an OEM or a cancelled order. Send us the exact part number including the package and grade suffix and we can typically confirm availability within a day.
Does the suffix on the part number really matter when I order?
It matters a lot. The suffix defines package, temperature range, and sometimes accuracy grade, and an industrial-grade converter in SOIC will not drop into a commercial QFN socket. Mismatched suffixes are one of the most common reasons data acquisition orders get returned, so copy the full ordering code straight from your BOM.
