Motion Sensors - Accelerometers

Accelerometers sit on the board to measure acceleration, tilt, vibration, and shock, and they show up in everything from phone screen rotation and hard drive protection to industrial condition monitoring and car airbag triggers. Most of what we move falls into a few buckets: low-g MEMS parts in the +/-2g to +/-16g range for consumer and IoT designs, high-g parts for impact and crash detection, and digital-output parts with I2C or SPI that save the firmware team from writing ADC drivers. Analog output parts still sell, mostly in legacy industrial designs nobody wants to requalify. When buyers come to us, the first questions are usually about axis count, bandwidth, noise density, and whether the part comes in the same footprint as the one they are trying to second-source. LGA packages dominate, and a 2x2mm part from one vendor is rarely drop-in compatible with another even when the pin count matches, so cross-referencing needs care. One honest trade-off we see often: the cheapest quote on the market for hot parts like ADXL series devices is frequently a refurbished or re-marked unit pulled from e-waste, and the failure only shows up months later in the field. Paying a bit more for traceable stock, or accepting a longer lead time on factory-direct reels, usually costs less than a recall. Packaging matters too, since many production lines insist on original tape and reel with intact moisture barrier bags rather than cut tape from an unknown handler.
