Attenuators
Attenuators are passive components that reduce signal power by a fixed or controlled amount, and they show up in almost every RF chain, audio path, and test setup you can think of. The category covers a wide spread: fixed RF attenuators in coaxial form (SMA, N-type, BNC), surface-mount chip attenuators for PCB layouts, digital step attenuators for gain control in receivers, voltage-controlled types, and simple resistive attenuation pads for audio or instrumentation. On the bench side, you also see rotary and programmable benchtop attenuators used heavily in lab and production test. When engineers and buyers source these parts, the first things on the checklist are usually attenuation range and step resolution, frequency range, power handling, VSWR, and flatness across band. Package matters a lot too. A 3 dB SMA inline attenuator and a 3 dB SMT chip attenuator solve the same math problem but live in completely different supply chains, and lead times between the two can differ by weeks. That is a real trade-off we see often: a buyer specced a connectorized part for a prototype, then discovers the production run needs the SMT version, and the approved vendor list has to be revisited. Counterfeit risk is worth mentioning here, especially for high-frequency parts from brands like Mini-Circuits, Pasternack, or API Technologies. Precision attenuators rely on tight resistive tolerances and plating quality, and remarked or recycled parts can pass a quick continuity check while failing badly at 6 GHz. Traceability documentation and date code verification are not optional if your application touches aerospace, defense, or telecom infrastructure. If you have a part number or even just a target spec, check current stock or request a quote directly at icxing.com and we will come back with pricing and lead time.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the minimum order quantity (MOQ) for custom fixed attenuator designs?
For standard fixed attenuators, our MOQ starts at 50 pieces per specification. For custom designs requiring specific dB values, connector orientations, or unique mechanical footprints, the MOQ typically ranges from 100 to 500 pieces depending on the complexity and material requirements. We can accommodate smaller prototype quantities with a tooling or NRE (Non-Recurring Engineering) fee.
Can you supply attenuators with alternative plating or finishes for harsh environments?
Yes. While our standard finish is nickel or gold plating for corrosion resistance, we offer specialized coatings such as passivated stainless steel, silver plating, or epoxy-painted housings for maritime, aerospace, or outdoor telecommunications applications. Please specify your environmental requirements (salt spray, humidity, temperature cycling) during the RFQ process so we can recommend the appropriate finish.
How do you handle attenuator specification changes after an order is placed?
If a specification change is requested within 24 hours of order confirmation, we can typically accommodate adjustments without penalty. Once production has commenced, changes to attenuation value, connector type, or power handling may incur additional tooling charges or require new lead times. We recommend finalizing specifications during the prototyping phase and maintaining an approved sample for reference.
